Just a year after its original release, the Garmin Fenix 7 is updated with an impressive range of upgrades as part of the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro series. Still a robust and handsome-looking multisport GPS smartwatch, the new Pro edition offers improved battery life, integrated flashlights in every case size and several new tools for refining your training including Endurance Score and Hill Score. Here’s all you need to know about the new Garmin Fenix 7 Pro… What’s New? One of the biggest talking points of the Garmin Fenix 7 series from last year was the inclusion of an integrated LED flashlight. This useful feature was only available on the largest 51mm Fenix 7X so those of us with smaller wrists were not able to enjoy the illuminating tool. That was until the arrival of the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro, which now incorporates the flashlight feature into all three case sizes of the Fenix 7 – that includes the 42mm Fenix 7S Pro, the 47mm Fenix 7 Pro and the 51mm Fenix 7X Pro. Like before, the flashlight comes with several modes and customisation options including an SOS mode and a Strobe mode for running. The Garmin Fenix 7 Pro watches continue to impress with a long battery life with solar charging. The Garmin Fenix 7X Pro Sapphire Solar Edition for example offers up to 37 days of charge in smartwatch mode, up to 122 hours in GPS mode and up to 139 days of GPS in Expedition mode with solar charging. For the first time, the Fenix 7 also features Garmin’s Jet Lag Advisor which is designed to help you minimise the effects of jet lag. It offers you advice on light exposure, sleep and exercise to get you back on track to adventuring. There are several new features for the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro smartwatch that will be essential for runners. First is Hill Score which gives you an insight into your uphill running capabilities by monitoring your uphill running progress overtime based on your VO2 max and training history. Working nicely alongside this is the new Endurance Score feature which combines training data from your workouts to help you understand how training impacts your overall endurance. Higher scores reflect more capacity for longer performances. There’s also an upgraded wrist-based heart rate monitor to ensure more accurate monitoring of your performance as well as a new running power feature which taps into metrics such as pace, vertical oscillation, grade and even local wind conditions to calculate the amount of power you’re applying to the ground as you run. Additional Features On top of all this, Garmin Fenix 7 Pro watches continue to deliver the long list of apps and features previously available on the standard Fenix 7. This includes lightweight fibre-reinforced polymer cases in 42mm, 47mm or 51mm with sapphire crystal-protected, solar-powered displays. There’s also 100 metre water resistant ratings, 32GB of memory, high-pixel resolution screens and a choice of rubber, leather or metal straps. As for health and fitness features, there’s Garmin Coach, Visual Race Predictor, PacePro technology, grade-adjusted pace, training status and readiness, performance metrics, real-time stamina, daily suggested workouts, recovery time and much more. For when adventure calls, the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro smartwatches utilise Up Head Map Integration for at-glance awareness of selection points of interest, ABC sensors, SATIQ technology, NextFork Map Guide and round-trip routing. There’s then all the essential features you need for day-to-day life including stress, sleep and hydration tracking, music storage, stocks tracker, smart notifications and Garmin Pay. We could go on and on about the long list of features available on the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro watches but we urge you to explore them for yourself in more detail on the C W Sellors website here.
